I just created a couple new t-shirts over at my Zazzle store for basset hound lovers, breeders and rescue organizations featuring an acrylic painting I did of a basset puppy. I love Zazzle! It’s fun and addictive, in a good way! Please check it out at www.zazzle.com/zannypetz Buy something!

Acrylic on Board Painting: I’ve been pugged!

July 24, 2009 · Posted in Acrylic Paintings · Comment

I did this acrylic painting of a little pug for my neighbor’s pug, Hannah, an adult female who REALLY wants to be a mommy.  She cries every time she sees this puppy painted on a board! Despite the fact the puppy never moves, it must look real enough to Hannah! Guess the zebra has inspired me! This little pug is life-sized, too, but needless to say, didn’t take nearly the time the zebra did.

There’s a Zebra in my Living Room! Life-sized and Hand-painted

Yup, I made this life-sized guy and named him Zachary the Zebra. He’s made of very fine particle board and hand-painted by me! He’s been with me for years and is a great attention-getter at art shows. He stands guard outside the booth and people can see him for blocks! If you’d like a life-sized, hand painted replica of your pet (or to give as a unique gift or to use in your own booth), email me at artsesue@hotmail! :-)

Acrylic Painting: Lounging Polar Bear

July 10, 2009 · Posted in Acrylic Paintings · Comment

I originally did this as a graphite pencil drawing, but liked the image so much I did an acrylic painting of it too. Although you can’t tell from this photo, the bear’s fur is “textured”, and the background and foreground are irridescent and reflective, like real snow. The original 20″ x 30″ painting, done on finished edge canvas, is posted for sale at http://fineartamerica.com/featured/lounging-polar-bear-suzanne-schaefer.html

Acrylic Painting: Arabian Horse

This acrylic painting was so much fun to do! Of course, as some of you may know, I’m partial to painting and drawing things that are alive (especially if they have eyeballs) but to capture the beauty, elegance and power of horses, ……well, it’s just a treat. Prints of this acrylic painting, on either paper or canvas, are available at http://www.fineartamerica.com/profiles/suzanne-schaefer.html

Acrylic Equine Portrait Painting: Windbreaker

Here’s a commissioned acrylic portrait painting of this incredible stallion, Windbreaker. The day I went with camera in hand to take a series of photos of him, he seemed to instinctively know he was a star, almost as if he was striking various “poses” for me.

Acrylic Painting: Framed Northwest Indian Art/Bear Totem

June 2, 2009 · Posted in Acrylic Paintings · Comment

I have some of the best neighbors on the planet, and one of them is crazy about Northwest Indian art, so I did some research on the subject and came up with this little 4 x 6 inch acrylic painting for her. The bear itself is varnished with gloss varnish, the background is a matt finish. The frame was painted with special paint that has mica flecks in it and has a reflective quality to it. Don’t know if you can see all that clearly in the photograph or not. I’d be happy to make one for you too! Just contact me (artsesue@hotmail.com)  and let me know what you’d like. Great original gift idea at not a huge cost!

Acrylic Painting: Butterfly Collage

I call this 8 x 10 acrylic painting a “collage“, but that’s only because I don’t know what else to call it. It’s a very simple, understated design that I like, although my daughter said “Mom, nobody is into butterflies anymore!” Hmmm… maybe she’s right, but it doesn’t matter. I still like it.

Acrylic Painting: Abstract in Blues

Well…..this one turned out far better than I ever dreamed it would! Yes, it is acrylic paint, and yes, it’s an abstract painting in blue, but honestly, it was mostly an experiment! HA. I love it when experimental pieces actually turn out better than you imagined at the beginning of the process. I like this one so much I don’t think I’ll even try to market it. I’d love some feed-back from others on this one! (One can’t necessarily be objective about one’s own work, you know?) Hopefully, I’ll get some critiques.

Acrylic Painting of a Little Mountain Waterfall

June 1, 2009 · Posted in Acrylic Paintings · Comment

Here is an acrylic painting I did of a little mountain waterfall we came across while hiking. My goal was to capture the incredible “sparkly-ness” of the water, as in the fine mist along the large boulder.
